American Medical Association – CPT Code 99072: Additional supplies, materials, and clinical staff time over and above those usually included in an office visit or other non-facility service(s), when performed during a Public Health Emergency as defined by law, due to respiratory-transmitted infectious disease.

In the time of a public health emergency, we have risen to the challenge of providing as safe an environment for our patients and staff as possible. Many new safety measures have been put into action: screening protocols are now in place to enter our facilities, and additional protective equipment is now required, including masks and eye protection for all patient encounters, as well as increased use of protective gowns and gloves. Additionally, we have enhanced our cleaning and disinfecting procedures and added more air purification units to all of our offices to ensure a safer environment for everyone.

To help cover these added costs, health care offices are permitted, by the American Medical Association, to apply a small additional charge per visit as defined above. We will be charging $12 per visit.  This charge will be submitted to your insurance carrier for their consideration.  Some insurance carriers will pay the charge in full, others are reducing it partially, and some carriers are applying the amount to deductible under patient responsibility.  We will follow your insurance carrier’s instructions.  Please note that the code is permissible only during a defined public health emergency, and we will discontinue use of this code once the emergency is over.
