Milk free diet for Mom

MILK SOY PROTEIN FREE DIET

Limitation of milk and soy foods from a mother’s diet may sound challenging at first, but with guidance you will find this is an achievable lifestyle. Along with the support you will receive from Complete Children’s Health, please feel free to check into the valuable resources in our community as well.

Ingredients to AVOID (may contain milk or protein):

Milk products            
Milk, milk solids or proteins        
(including hydrolyzed proteins)    
Cheese                    
Yogurt                    
Cream                                        
Nonfat dry milk            
Casein/Caseinate            
Whey                    
Milk Chocolate
(plus most other chocolates)
Butter, butter solids, butter fat, buttermilk
(plus most margarines)
Lactalbumin

Soy products
Soy, soy protein, soy protein isolage
Soy Flour
Vegetable protein, broth, gum or starch
Soy Beans
Soy Caseinate
Tofu

*Soy oil and Soy Lecithin are okay. (fats)

Nuts, including peanut butter, have also been linked with increased allergy in those that are already sensitive to milk/soy.

FOODS YOU CAN EAT

PLEASE ALWAYS READ LABELS! Products may change and ingredients may be missed that should be avoided.

Rice Milk: plain or vanilla available
Fruits
Vegetables: especially green leafy vegetables as these are high in calcium
Eggs
Beans: black beans, kidney beans, baked beans, etc
Meat (non-breaded): Tysons Chicken Nuggets, Van De Kamp’s fish sticks are okay
Grains: Rotella breads, most HyVee, Walmart and SaraLee brands (read labels)
Most pastas (watch for soy proteins as fillers)

ENJOY LIFE food products (cereals, breads/bagels, snack bars, chocolate bars/chips) are free of top 8 common food allergens, and can be purchased at Super Saver, HyVee, Akins, Red Clover, Open Harvest, Whole Foods

Condiments/substitutions
Fleischmann’s unsalted stick margarine or Smart balance Margarine can be substituted for butter
Ketchup, Mustard, Salsa, Miracle Whip (regular or lite)
Hershey’s chocolate syrup
Guittard semi sweet chocolate chips

Snacks
Pretzels
Popcorn
Plain Potato and Corn Chips
Nabisco’s Triscuits and Wheat Thins
Keebler and HyVee Animal Crackers
Most Cereals
Gummie and hard candies
Some Duncan Hines cake mixes and classic vanilla or chocolate frosting
Plain Rice Krispie Bars (made with Fleischmann’s Margarine)
Reduced Fat Oreo’s or Uh-oh Oreo’s
Most Sorbets
Hunts Snack Pak Lemon Pudding
Fritos Bean Dip

EATING OUT
Papa John’s-breadstick and marinara sauce
McDonald’s-Chicken Selects (NOT Chicken McNuggets), Hamburger (No bun-they have soy flour), Side Salad, French Fries, Hashbrowns, plain Apple Dippers (without caramel),McDonald Land Cookies
Burger King-Hamburgers on sesame seed bun (Whopper Junior without cheese)
BK veggie, Side Salad with vinaigrette dressing
Panera Bread-Sourdough and French Breads, Turkey Breast sandwich, Asian Sesame Chicken Salad, Café Salad, fruit cup, Vegetable Black Bean Soup, Apple, Blueberry, Raisin, Sesame or Plain Bagels.
Mr Goodscents- Bread okay (no cheese)
Subway-Italian Bread only (no cheese)
Taco Bell: Beef/Bean burrito with flour tortilla (no cheese, baha sauce or sour cream), Chicken/Beef Soft or Hard Shell Tacos (no cheese)
