GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides primary care services, including assessing, evaluating and managing patients in a clinic and/or hospital setting following established standards and practices.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Medical Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Medical supervision of nursing support staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides routine medical management of patient care within the scope of licensure.
- Examine patients or order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical condition and determine diagnosis.
- Examine children regularly to assess their growth and development.
- Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury in infants and children.
- Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
- Advise patients, parents or guardians and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Treat children who have minor illnesses, acute and chronic health problems, and growth and development concerns.
- Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients and parents or guardians.
- Monitor patients' condition and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary.
- Plan and execute medical care programs to aid in the mental and physical growth and development of children and adolescents.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience in a clinic setting preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Valid
KNOWLWEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
o Professional medicinal theory, practice and care to give and evaluate patient care.
o Drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects and proper administration.
o Primary care principles and practices.
o CPR and emergency medical procedures.
o Organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
o Medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
o Common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
o Normal developmental milestones.
o Normal growth through well child care.
Skill in:
o Applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional medicine to provide ongoing patient care.
o Taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
o Preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
o Educating patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
o Developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
o Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
Ability to:
o Perform medical examinations using standard medical procedures.

o Interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Proficiency with Microsoft applications, and computers in general. Clear written and verbal communications. Good time management skills. Excellent attention to detail. Work well in a team environment. Able to maintain confidential information.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; standing and walking for extensive periods of time; occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; works under stressful conditions and potentially works irregular hours
