Job Description:
1. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information and documents in electronic medical record (EMR) and on note. Instructs patients and/or family members or guardians regarding collection of samples and tests.
2. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of pediatric patients.
3. Performs general nursing care to pediatric patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments as prescribed by provider in accordance with clinic policy and documents in EMR.
4. Observes, records (in EMR), and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to providers.
5. Oversees appointment schedule and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timely flow of patients.
6. Arranges for patient testing and admissions.
7. Assesses and accurately documents vital signs as appropriate for visit.
8. Performs and documents developmental assessments for well children (after extended training)
9. Provides parent and patient education including but not limited to: nutrition, development and safety (after extended training).
10. Maintains and reviews patients’ records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts test and examination results.
11. Performs lab duties:
a. Administers and documents vaccines
b. Performs in house tests; reports and documents results
c. Collects, labels and distributes specimens to be sent out, places order for same.
d. Reports and documents results of sent out labs.
12. Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.
13. Screens and refers pharmaceutical representatives as necessary.
14. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
15. Participates in continuing education opportunities.
16. Maintains patient confidentiality.
17. Performs related work as required.
The CCH RN/LPN/CMA has understanding of medical and pediatric care to assist in giving care to infants, children and adolescents. She/he has knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures in a pediatric clinic setting. She/he has knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care to infants, children and adolescents. She/he understands common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures. Skills include: assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed; taking vital signs on infants, children and adolescents; maintaining records and recording test results; developing and maintaining quality assurance standards established by the clinic; and, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, patients’ families, medical and clinical staff, and the public. He/she also has the ability to maintain quality control standards; react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures and communicates clearly.
